Girl Dinner

Saison in Pete’s French means “Season”. Often described as a “farmhouse” style, saison is traced back to the Belgian area of Wallonia. Saison refers to the seasonal migrant workers that would come to live on the farms. 

There were three reasons for the development of this beer: for these workers to drink in these warm summer months, for these workers to have something to make during their off season of winter, and to create spent grain for the animals living on the farm. Traditionally it would be made from wild yeasts, and different varieties of grain that were harvested from these farms. 

The inspiration: Girl Dinner - a current meme circling the internet showcasing the hodgepodge of foods that individuals pair together to get a caloric and often nutritious meal without needing to cook or dirty dishes. 

Girl Dinner is often fun, funky, and involves a little bit of everything. We immediately thought of a Saison Ale, but the challenge was making one that could be crisp, peppery, and fruity - all aspects that we deemed necessary for Girl Dinner. A saison with Pacific Jade hops from New Zealand and saffron fit the bill.

The resulting beer is slightly bready with a uniquely crisp & dry profile. We taste an orange-y sweetness with a bit of peppery spice. The added saffron creates a floral aroma, giving a well rounded experience overall.
